Sales Policy for Live Animals & Buyer FAQ
Dairy Goats
How serious is owning a goat? What kind of goats do you offer for sale? Owning goats is a serious and large responsibility that should not be taken lightly. Here at Little Moon Acres, we strive for healthy and friendly animals based on the consumer's need. Our animals are offered as performance animals, pets, 4-H/FFA projects, and family milkers. We have purebred Nigerian Dwarfs and Recorded Grades. Our dairy goats are NOT meat animals. If you are interested in meat goats, we can send you in the right direction.

Are your goats tested for diseases? Yes they are! It is important to note that our herd is a CAE, CL and Johnes free herd, and we test annually for these diseases. We pride ourselves on having a clean herd and strict biosecurity protocols. We will provide proof of negative test results to you upon request. We are very transparent about the health of our animals.

What if I am not from Connecticut? Is there any information I should know regarding health or moving them home? If you are NOT from Connecticut and you would like to purchase a goat, please check with your state for health and testing regulations. It is also important to check with your town's zoning and agricultural commission for information on keeping livestock on your property.
How do I place a reservation? What is the cost? You can place a reservation by emailing us or messaging us on Facebook. Two types of reservations are available:

A. FREE Reservation: This type of reservation will put you on the doe's "wish list." Paid reservations take priority over free reservations. If kids are available after paid reservations have been fulfilled, choice will be given on a first come first serve basis.

B. PAID Reservation: This type of reservation is $50 and will secure a kid for you. Paid reservations take priority over free reservations. They will go in order of who placed a reservation first.
Please inquire within for more information or if you would like to place a reservation.

What happens once the kid is born? If you are purchasing a kid, a $100 non-refundable deposit is required once the animal is born in order to hold your kid. If you are purchasing multiples, please note that the $100 non-refundable deposit is for each animal. At the time of pickup, the remaining money is due. ALL animals MUST be paid for IN FULL before leaving the farm. Little Moon Acres holds the right to retain any kid that comes out of any of our does for our own herd. When placing your reservation, please let us know your first choice and second choice kid. If your choice of kid is not available, we will refund your deposit or apply it to another kid of your choice, or roll it over to the next year.
How much do your goats cost? Please see our kidding schedule for pricing. Pricing is based upon many factors including the number of freshenings, quality of animals and results from performance programs. There will be no refunds on canceled orders. Refunds will be given in extenuating circumstances as determined by Little Moon Acres. No price negotiations. If you are a 4-H or FFA member, please present proof of membership and you will be given a discount.
Please note that if you are interested in buying goats from us and book a 1:1 mentoring session, you will receive a discount on your animal in the amount of what the single, initial mentoring session costs. Any mentoring sessions or classes attended beyond that will not be credited as they are at your own expense. A mentoring session is not required to purchase an animal from us but we highly recommend it if you have not purchased animals from us before or do not have goats currently.

Why are your goats so expensive? I've seen cheaper ones at auction! When you are buying from a breeder, you are getting much more than just a goat! What you are paying for is years of experience, advice, constant mentorship, and a healthy, guaranteed disease-free animal. Breeders spend thousands of dollars every year investing in quality genetics and holding up the highest standard of care possible for each and every animal on your property. It is so much more than just a goat. When you buy from a breeder, you are paying for a high-quality investment and experience.
Can I visit my kids? Yes, the buyer may visit their kid(s) upon request. We have a very busy schedule, day jobs, and will do our best to accommodate you! We do have strict biosecurity protocols in place on our farm. If you chose to not respect our wishes regarding those protocols, we will kindly ask you to leave. Children are allowed to visit but should be quiet and respectful of the goats. If they are not, we will kindly ask you to leave as to not stress the goats out. Little Moon Acres has the final say in who purchases an animal, and we have the right to decline a sale. We care for each and every one of our animals, as they are more than just goats to us. Payment is accepted via check, cash, Venmo or Paypal.
Will my goats be registered? All kids with the exception of wethers will be registered with the American Dairy Goat Association AND/OR the Miniature Dairy Goat Association and The American Goat Society. If you plan on showing your animal and participating in performance programs which we encourage, it is highly recommended that you become a member with the American Dairy Goat Association. Papers will be mailed to you once they arrive in the hands of Little Moon Acres. We CAN NOT guarantee the performance or health of an animal once it leaves our property. We will do everything that we can to set you up for success.

Can I name my kid? Previously we allowed buyers to select registration names for animals. Since we now have our animals leaving the property with papers in hand, no exceptions, we will be naming the goats upon birth unless otherwise arranged privately between the buyer and seller. Once the kid leaves our farm, you may choose to call them whatever you wish!
When can my kid(s) come home? Please note that we will not allow kids to leave until 8 to 10 weeks of age unless otherwise determined by Little Moon Acres. This gives the proper amount of time for weaning and health evaluations. Your animal will be in your hands vaccinated for CDT and given coccidiosis prevention. Kids will also be sold dis-budded, tattooed, and banded if they are sold for the intention of being a wether. All kids will be registered with ADGA, MDGA, and AGS. Papers will be given to you when you pick up your kids.

What happens if I can't pick up my kid on time? How can I get my kids home? Any kids that remain on our property past their scheduled pickup date of 10 weeks old will be subjected to a daily boarding fee of $3.50 per day. If you are out of state and require transport, please work with us to arrange transport for your kid. If you are local, please make arrangements to come pick up your kid(s) from the farm. Pickups occur on Saturday mornings. We will not being available to drop off kids to your farm in 2025.
Is moving my goat home stressful? What if I need help? Please note that leaving the farm/mother can be very stressful for the kid. We will send you home with general care information based on what we have found works for us in the past 17 years in the field of goats. We encourage you to call or text us at any time with any questions what so ever with your new goat. We will respond to messages within 24 hours/ASAP. When we first started, we didn't have many resources to turn to. Buyer to seller relationship has become a very crucial relationship to us.
Do I have to sign a contract when I pick up my goat? Yes. With selling our animals, in order to ensure they are going to the best homes, we require all buyers to sign a contract. ALL animals MUST be paid for IN FULL before leaving Little Moon Acres. Again, we want to make sure they are going to the safest home possible and continue to receive the best care that we have given them thus far in their life. We have the right to decline a sale at any time.
If you have any further questions regarding sales and the care of goats, do not hesitate to contact us at any given time.
